We’re generally a nation who must relearn the art of playfulness. Actually, most people are quite willing. They just need permission, and that’s where PLAY TONE comes in.

PLAY TONE is an evolution of a successful alternative fitness brand specialising in fitness and fun, allowing you to unleash your inner child! Tone up with hula hoop, roller skate and jump rope classes! PLAY TONE will be at FitFest Oxford on 15th June, so you can join in the fun! Their secret is covering up exercise with some serious fun and play.

Why is fun and play so good for us?

Well, skating is good for your physical and mental wellbeing. People tend to think fun activities and healthy activities don’t overlap, but the National Heart Association lists roller-skating as just as aerobically effective as running, swimming and biking. Skating is also low-impact, so you can protect your joints.

Skating improves fitness levels, especially cardiovascular development, muscle strength and lung capacity. One hour on skates burns about as many calories as running while strengthening your leg muscles and connecting tissues. As a result, skating can improve your performance, fitness and calorie burning rate in other types of sports. Studies have shown that roller-skating provides a complete aerobic workout and involves all of the body’s muscles, especially the heart.

Skating is fun, and play, joy and spontaneity are rooted in all of our hearts. Play therapy can help individuals communicate, experience personal growth and more. It’s widely viewed as an important, effective and developmentally appropriate mental health treatment. Play can increase our self-esteem, and it invites access to states of wellbeing, calm, silliness and joy. When we’re laughing or simply engrossed in a pleasant diversion, we tend to take fuller breaths, thus getting a better oxygen exchange.
